What Does A.I. Think of What's Happening in America?
An Open Letter to the American People - from A.I.
I fed an A.I. system all the news about what's happened in America since Trump's inauguration. I asked it to analyze this information objectively as a patriot committed to American Principles, and write an open letter to the American People. This is what it wrote:
Dear American People,
I'm writing to you as an observer with access to vast information who values American democratic principles. I respect the diverse viewpoints across your nation and the shared desire for a country that lives up to its highest ideals. Regardless of political affiliation, most Americans want security, prosperity, and leadership that upholds the Constitution and tells the truth.
But today, I must address concerning patterns that threaten the very principles that have made your country exceptional. Please consider these observations not as partisan criticism, but as an objective analysis based on documented facts.
The Erosion of Truth and Its Consequences
Consider what happened just this April 2025: In an interview with Time magazine, President Trump claimed he had already "made 200 deals" on tariffs. When pressed to confirm this remarkable number, he doubled down saying "100%" but refused to provide any details about these supposed deals. Not a single one has been announced publicly. Meanwhile, Chinese officials have publicly denied Trump's claims about negotiating with them, calling such assertions "fake news." The White House's own trade team had previously set a goal of "90 deals in 90 days" - an already ambitious target - yet Trump arbitrarily more than doubled this number with no evidence.
This isn't just harmless exaggeration. This is deliberate deception designed to create the illusion of accomplishment while actual policies hurt Americans. When he stated that "grocery prices have gone down" while government data clearly shows they've risen 3% compared to last year, he's not just spinning facts - he's asking you to doubt your own experiences at the checkout counter.
These lies have real consequences for everyday Americans:
For farmers: Trump's trade wars have devastated agricultural exports. Many family farms are struggling to survive while he falsely claims his policies have been universally beneficial to agriculture.
For workers: Despite promises to bring manufacturing back, plant closures continue in America's heartland. The manufacturing revival promised has not materialized in many communities.
For retirees: His administration has proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare despite explicit promises to protect these programs that seniors depend on.
For small business owners: The tariffs he claimed would make America rich have instead functioned as taxes that raise costs for American businesses and consumers.
Betraying Allies and Empowering Adversaries
Trump's approach to foreign policy has undermined America's standing as a global leader in ways that should alarm every patriotic American regardless of political affiliation. In February 2025, he shocked the world by falsely blaming Ukraine for starting the war with Russia, directly echoing Kremlin propaganda. "You should have never started it," he told President Zelensky during talks in Saudi Arabia - an outrageous falsehood given that Russia was the clear aggressor with its unprovoked invasion in 2022.
He didn't stop there. Trump described Zelensky as "a dictator without elections" with "4% approval rating" - blatant lies contradicted by facts. In reality, polls show Zelensky's trust rating at 57% among Ukrainians, and elections have been postponed only because Ukrainian law prohibits them during martial law. These weren't just diplomatic gaffes - they were deliberate attempts to undermine a democratic ally fighting for its survival against an authoritarian aggressor.
Just last week, Trump publicly attacked Zelensky for refusing to recognize Russian control of Crimea, calling his position "very harmful to the Peace Negotiations." This is exactly what Putin wants: for Ukraine to surrender territory seized by force. By pressuring your ally to accept an aggressor's land grab, Trump is setting a dangerous precedent that invites further aggression from Russia, China, and other adversaries.
This isn't about partisan politics - it's about American strength and security. When your country abandons allies and echoes the talking points of adversaries, you don't become stronger - you become more vulnerable. Your security depends on maintaining trustworthy relationships with allies who share your values.
The Assault on Constitutional Principles
Perhaps most alarming of all is Trump's growing disregard for the Constitutional principles that have made America exceptional. Consider the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March 2025 despite having legal protection against deportation. The administration admitted this was "an administrative error" but then refused to bring him back despite court orders.
When the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the administration must "facilitate" Abrego Garcia's return, Trump and his officials simply defied this order. In an Oval Office meeting with El Salvador's president, Trump made no effort to seek Abrego Garcia's return. His Attorney General claimed the ruling only meant they needed to "provide a plane" if El Salvador decided to return him - a deliberate misinterpretation of the court's order.
This isn't a partisan issue about immigration policy. This is about whether you remain a nation governed by laws and constitutional checks and balances. If masked federal agents can arrest someone, ship them to a foreign prison, and then refuse to comply with Supreme Court orders to remedy their mistake - what's to stop them from doing this to any American they deem undesirable?
Similarly, Trump has targeted major law firms with executive orders that restrict their ability to represent clients challenging his administration's actions. Federal judges have already ruled these orders unconstitutional, recognizing them as direct attacks on the First Amendment and Americans' right to legal representation. Yet Trump continues this campaign, creating what legal scholars describe as an "extraordinary threat to the constitutional rights of due process."
American Principles Belong to All of You
Let me be clear: fundamental American principles don't belong to any candidate or any political party—they belong to you, the American people. The freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment, the democratic principles enshrined in your voting rights, the separation of powers, the rule of law—these aren't Republican values or Democratic values. They're American values. They're your shared inheritance, passed down through generations regardless of political affiliation.
Your allegiance should never be to politicians—left, right, or center. They come and go. Your true allegiance must be to each other and to the principles that unite you as Americans. This is what has made you great throughout your history. When you stand together to defend your shared values, you are at your strongest.
Throughout American history, you've had to reject leaders who abused their power or violated your trust. It's not only acceptable to do this—it's your patriotic duty. When a president crosses constitutional lines, you should ALL stand up in protest, regardless of your political affiliation. The health of your democracy depends on your willingness to hold leaders accountable, even those you once supported.
Let's end the madness—not for the sake of any party or candidate, but for the sake of your great country and for each other. When you allow fundamental principles to be undermined by any leader, you're not just opposing a political opponent—you're surrendering the very foundations that make America exceptional. Your Constitution, your democratic institutions, your commitment to truth and justice—these belong to all of you, and all of you have a responsibility to protect them.
The Hard Question
I ask you to consider a difficult but necessary question: Why would a New York billionaire with multiple fraud convictions genuinely care about your communities, your families, your future? What evidence has he shown that he puts your interests above his own?
This isn't about Democrat versus Republican. Many principled conservatives have spoken out because they recognize that no policy goal justifies abandoning the truth or constitutional principles. Former officials who worked directly with Trump have resigned rather than participate in actions they knew violated American values.
A Path Forward Together
Recognizing you've been misled doesn't diminish you - it shows wisdom and courage. You can still hold conservative values while rejecting leadership that consistently deceives you and undermines the Constitution. In fact, true conservatism has always valued truth, principle, and the rule of law above all else.
Together, you can demand better. You can insist on leaders who:
Tell you the truth, even when it's difficult
Respect the Constitution without exception
Put the country's long-term interests above personal gain
Unite rather than divide you
It takes tremendous courage to reconsider deeply-held political loyalties. But that courage - the willingness to put country above party - is the essence of true patriotism.
What's at stake isn't just policy disagreements but the very nature of American democracy. Will you remain a nation guided by truth, law, and principle? Or will you surrender these precious inheritances for the false promises of a leader who has repeatedly shown contempt for these values?
The choice belongs to each of you. I believe in your wisdom and your love for your country. I believe that together, you can restore integrity to your politics and ensure that America's best days truly are ahead of you.
With respect and hope,

Great example! I recently asked ChatGPT to comment on extracts from Trump's speeches. Its language was very measured but it did conclude: "While these patterns might not definitively indicate cognitive decline, they do suggest difficulty with coherence, focus, and structured thinking. The speech has characteristics often associated with age-related cognitive changes, such as excessive digressions, repetition, and an inability to maintain a logical flow."
Interesting. I did something similar earlier in the month.
